Noble for England
Saw it reported on Twitter that Mr. Hodgson has said the following about Mark Noble:

"He simply isn't good enough to be involved in the England set up, sorry but that's the hard truth"

This from a guy that has given caps to Shelvey, Huddlestone, Livermore, Rodwell, Phil Jones, and Leon Osman in the midfield and just called up Danny Drinkwater whose had a decent half a season at Leicester.

I didn't think it was possible to like Hodgson any less than I already did but I was wrong! I actually don't want any West Ham players called up now if this is how he speaks of players and "coaches" them.

Re: Noble for England

I think you're being a bit creative to back your point up regarding the Greeks and Noble. My counter is that in comparison to most other European nations, Greece lacks the technical and flair that the European elites had. England were harshly put out of the competition in '04 by unsurprisingly bad refereeing decisions and had we have surpassed Portugal would have been one of the favourites to win that year. Greece were likely a one off, BUT they did it and does not mean it couldn't be done again.

Back to Noble; I'm not sure what his age has to do with any possible selection. He's coming into his peak and not just that, one Scott Parker made the grade later in years as did Teddy Sheringham and both had a positive influence on the side. To say Noble couldn't is misleading.

You're either a favourite of the media or you're not and Drinkwater is very much a favourite.

I can't comment on his overall season as have only seen him play 5/6 times, but in one of them he had a passing rate of 70 odd % (poor considering he rarely passes more than 20 yards) and was pretty shit constantly getting out of position.

Next day in the paper he was given man of the match.

As long as West Ham continue on the upgrade, I couldn't give a fuck what outsider know nothings think of our players.

1) Noble is not good enough for England

2) if he wasn't a local boy you wouldn't care

3) Hodgson picking even worse players than Noble still doesn't make Noble good enough.

4) Drinkwater deserves to be there on form.

Re: Noble for England
Well Pub Bigot, you can be dismissive over the stats for Roy Hodgson but plenty of managers have failed miserably with lesser skilled players full of enthusiasm. Graham Taylor selected fit and enthusiastic players over skillful ones and that went well didn't it!

International competitions are won by the teams with the best and most skillful players that are well motivated and tactically set up by a class manager. Would Mark Noble take his WH enthusiasm into the England squad? Not until he's been there for several squads and at 28 now....

Greece were an anomaly but, you're forgetting that that Greek team had very skillful individuals as they always do. The manager added the rest imo...

Re: Noble for England
I hugely disagree.

Firstly, his win ratio is a Red Herring when you factor in the group which we qualified from. Hodgson at the very least would have been expected to have an 80% win record from that group and small kudos for getting 100%. But pair England against the European elites in the Euro's and we're cannon fodder.

Would adding Noble to the equation change that? Probably not, but like the Greeks in '04, instead of having the best players on paper, maybe what England need in this dire period of talent in an industrious side that will work for every ball and play as a unit. Noble would bring that.

I hope James Collins tops our group.

Roy Hodgson isn't an "awful" judge of players or manager.

He's maybe never been outstanding himself but he hasn't done too badly with a 60% win %age for England and 100% in qualification for the Euros.

The England team is a bit like the FA Cup. It fills in the time between WH games that's all...

Agreed. See Greece in Euro 2004.

But he's not international class... Course not.

blimey is it just me that is relieved when our players don't get picked for international duty?

I couldn't give a fuck on the basis England hasn't interested me since 1996

if any of ours get in the squad they'll probably hardly play anyhow it will be the same old dross

Re: Noble for England
Why is there an obsession with a player having to be World Class/International Class/England Class?
For too long the so called best players have not formed a good team, which is what is most important.
Maybe if there were 7 or 8 players who are, like Noble or Drinkwater, good in all aspects without excelling at anything specifically around a some special talents that can change/win a game we might have a team that challenges at tournaments.
Wasn't that what won us the World Cup?

Re: Noble for England
Willtell, he's a fucking awful judge. Looking at his career, his high points as manager were two runners up medals in the UEFA cup with Inter and Fulham. He flopped at Liverpool and Blackburn and made his name in smaller leagues and with the Swiss national team. He's an intelligent man, but that doesn't make him a good manager.

And One Macca said it right, a better manager does pick him every week.

I've asked it before and in the basis of form, why does Henderson and Milner deserve a place ahead of him?

Worst part of this whole debacle is John Stones who isn't starting for Everton at the moment being considered as an England midfielder.

And yeah, for the first time in my life, the England side can go fuck themselves.,

Re: Noble for England
I dont know why everyone gets upset about it. Noble is good and he's ours but, when it comes to international class I have to agree with Woy. He isn't quite good enough.

The fact that Woy has tried some minger players in his time doesn't mean there is any point in trying Nobes if he doesn't rate him highly enough. Woy might be old but he's hardly a bad judge or manager is he?

'Mark Noble is brilliant for us and is an important cog in the current West Ham machine. I'm not convinced that even if he ever made the England squad that he would get a look in. There are lots of decent players that never got many or any senior England caps.'

Quite right, our own Billy Bonds springs to mind as well as, from the same era, Steve Perryman of the scum, who never got an England start either. 1300 club appearances between them, though, so fairly important cogs in their respective machines.

Re: Noble for England
Noble has looked better as he has better players around him now.
Same for the rest of the England lads, when they haven't got their club mates around them they look thoroughly exposed playing for their country when against decent opposition.

Re: Noble for England
As far I am concerned if Woy saw fit to give Ryan fucking Mason a go...Mark Noble more than deserves a call up.

Personally don't think he's good enough to be an International player..but England are bereft of top class players right now..and he is as good as most getting call ups.
